🌟 Beyond the Books Elementary Program
At Beyond the Books, our students are taught by certified, experienced educators who truly love what they do! Each morning, students begin their day in their grade-level homeroom — where they’ll enjoy morning meeting, writing, lunch, and social studies or science time with their classmates. At the start of the year, we assess each student in language arts and math to make sure they’re placed exactly where they need to be to grow and succeed.
Starting in 3rd grade, our students also take part in Mindful Mornings — a special curriculum created by our founder, Nicole Gries. Three times a week, students begin their day with short, engaging videos that teach meditation, mindfulness, and self-confidence, helping them start each day calm, focused, and ready to learn. *More info coming soon*
Our curriculum is standards-based and rigorous, but most importantly, it’s designed to meet each child where they are — bridging learning gaps that can come from a one-size-fits-all approach in traditional schools.
We keep our class sizes small (no more than 14 students!), allowing for individualized instruction and plenty of one-on-one support. For language arts, we use Wilson Fundations, a hands-on, movement-based phonics and handwriting program that helps students build and break apart words, strengthen spelling, and truly understand how words work. Our MyMath curriculum is just as interactive — students use manipulatives, play math games, and learn through real-world experiences that make math fun and meaningful.
Writing is taught using a teacher-created program that helps students gain confidence as authors — celebrating progress and creativity along the way. Science and Social Studies lessons are brought to life through hands-on experiments and interactive projects that make learning exciting and memorable.
Every day includes an hour of recess — outdoors on the field when the weather is nice, or indoors on the turf or in our classrooms stocked with Legos, art materials, and imaginative play activities when it’s cold. And of course, we end every week with FUN Fridays! These include parent volunteers, exciting STEM and art projects, and our rotating specials such as art, music, theater, life skills, cooking, and yoga!
At Beyond the Books, every day is filled with discovery, creativity, and connection — because learning should be as joyful as it is meaningful. 💛
